COURSE DESCRIPTION
Spinal Cord Injury Association of Illinois Association (SCIA) Seminar 2019, Chicago IL,
1 Day only 9:00 AM – 3:45PM 5.0 contact hour This one-day seminar is intended for health care professionals, persons with spinal cord injury (SCI), and their caregivers. The seminar will cover a variety of topics related to living with, and caring for, individuals with spinal cord injury/disease. These topics are: Functional Outcomes & Prognosis Following SCI, Neurogenic Bowel & Bladder, Metabolic Syndrome in SCI, Depression, and Respiratory Complications in SCI. Topics were selected based on participant feedback from previous seminars, as well as input from SCI consumers and subject matter experts in the field of SCI rehabilitation.
Course Objectives: a) Describe management of common sequelae of spinal cord injury, including the function of the respiratory system, bowel and bladder, physical mobility, and self-care. b) Describe differences in expected functional outcomes with rehabilitation based on level of injury and level of completeness of spinal cord injury. c) Discuss methods to prevent and treat common complications of spinal cord injury, including neurogenic bladder and bowel, depression, respiratory function, and cardiometabolic disease.
Continuing Education Credits for physical therapists, occupational therapists, assistants, and contact hours for nurses will be available. Contact hours will be awarded for attendance at 100% of the activity. In order to receive contact hours, sign-in and completion of an evaluation are required.
Shirley Ryan AbilityLab (ONA-362, 091/01/2020) is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Ohio Nurses Association (OBN-001-91), an accredited approver by the American Nurses Association Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
